Fatubessi Coronation:  September 2003

This was the occasion when SR. Manuel Tilman, Member of Parliament and traditional king of the village of Fatubessi reclaimed the crown (as it were, no hat was involved) from his brother who had been sort of looking it after it for him. A large gang of us malae went to join the local people for the ceremony, which involved a Mass, a bit of ceremony around the uma lulik (sacred house), and a lot to eat. The local keepers of the uma lulik then got merrily wasted on local hooch and danced the night away...
